Parade
"Whatcha got there, Raylee?"
The Steer Journalism car
Yesterday we went to the Big Spring homecoming parade and football game. I thought I'd share a few photos of West Texas homecoming festivities (and a few of some cute kids, too!).

Things that Go Bump...
So, on Monday I was very tired. I played nurse all day Sunday, I had a hard work out that morning, I had done chores, and I had waited and entertained Will in the doctor's office waiting area for an hour. When I got home I was beat. I got Scott to acquiesce to take care of Will for an hour or so so I could get in a little nap. Besides being awakened by the phone ringing several times, just as I was about to fall asleep, I hear a pip!, a couple more pips! and not a second later a thud! "What in the world?" I thought to myself and rolled over and tried to go back to sleep. I thought, "Surely Scott is not shooting at squirrels in the backyard. He is supposed to be feeding Will his dinner!"
Later, after my "nap" (which never really happened), as we were eating our meal, Scott told me that the dogs killed a squirrel in the backyard. I said, "Did you shoot it?" to which he sheepishly replied "Yes. He was eating our nuts," (we have a pecan tree in our backyard). I said, "So, did you kill it?" and he said he only injured it. He meant to just scare it, but his aim was a little too good (he was using a pellet gun, by the way). The squirrel was hit in the leg, tried to jump onto the house from the tree it was in, and missed. Did I mention that said tree is right outside my bedroom window, and the part of the house the rodent was trying to jump on was right above my head? The dogs seized this opportunity to mangle the poor creature. So yes, the dogs did kill the squirrel, but Scott helped a great deal. Poor little squirrel. I guess he shouldn't have been eating our nuts :(

Health Report
Will's booty is recovering nicely. Each day it looks better. Thanks again for all the advice.
If you read my other blog (Life and Laughter), you'll know that Will was sick on Friday and a little on Saturday. He is doing better but still hasn't gotten his regular appetite back yet. Today he ate better than he did all weekend. We cut his hair tonight and put him to bed early tonight as he had a pretty long day of playing and waiting around in the doctor's office (see below).
Today we took Will to the doctor who did his surgery for a follow-up appointment. After waiting for right at an hour, we saw the doctor for a total of about three or four minutes. He said everything looks great. Yea! Hopefully that is something we won't have to worry about ever again. I'm just so happy to have that all behind us. Thanks for all your prayers on his behalf.

Bad Booty
Okay, friends and family members, mommies, daddies, grandmas, and grandpas...
I need help!!! Will came home from "school" last week with a really bad diaper rash. Now, he's had redness before, but nothing like this. The skin is actually broken in a couple of places and it is spreading. It is even starting to swell in some places. Over the course of the last week it has gotten better, and worse, better and worse. Today he got back from school and he is literally red everywhere. I don't know what it is...is he possibly allergic to the wipes they are using at CDO? Are they not putting on cream? Are they putting on cream when his booty is still too wet from the wipes? Tonight it was so bad that when I changed his diaper he screamed and kicked so violently that it took about 3 or 4 minutes to actually wipe him. Then, when I tried to put him in a little soak to clean him more thoroughly, he freaked out and would not even sit in the water. He is really in a bad way! I think I am going to have to call the doctor in the morning if it hasn't imporved overnight (I let it dry as much as possible before putting Aveeno diaper rash ointment on him). Please help with your suggestions on diaper rash ointments, treatment, what you would do in the situation, etc...Thanks!

UPDATE...
Thank you, Heather, for your suggestions. I did end up taking Will to the doctor this morning (Thurs.) as he wasn't much better. He does in fact have a yeast infection, so it's good we went. She gave us some special medicated ointment and told us to let him run around naked as often as possible (that ought to be interesting). We're hoping this will clear it all up and we'll have a normal booty once more.

5 1/2!!
I couldn't believe it. We took Will to get new shoes today because his others were just not working. The saleswoman asked if we wanted to measure his foot and we thought that would be a good idea (duh!--I'm just used to going to Wal-Mart and picking out what I think would fit). No wonder I had the hardest time getting his other shoes on him and he would cry all the while--his other shoes where 1 1/2 sizes too small! He had been wearing a size four shoe and he is a size five and a half! So, here are some pics of Will in his brand-new correctly sized shoes!
Posing with his milk.
Will discovered that in his new shoes, he is tall enough to open the back door!
Doesn't he look like such a big boy?

New Things
With the beloved "Softie" or "Baby Bear"
A few new things about Will...
1. He loves to say his name. He says it in a sing-songy voice, "Whee-ill, Whee-ill..." Quite funny. Today when he woke up from his nap, he was just sitting in is crib singing his name to himself.
2. He knows several animals and the sounds they make. When you ask him what a chicken says, he will sometimes "cluck" his tongue. His word for monkey is "mama." I'm not sure how to take that one yet.
3. This weekend, while alone with his dad, Will realized that Scott had a scrape on his knee. He pointed to Scott's knee and said "Ow?" and gave him a kiss.
Surprised??
4. Another thing about Dad--Will has stopped calling him "Dada" and started calling him "Dado" (daa-doh). Why he is doing this, we do not know. It's pretty funny, though. Also, whenever Scott isn't around (and this was even before I left for the weekend), Will will say, "Dado, work?" because I told him one time that Daddy had to go to work and that was why he wasn't here. So even this morning when Scott was still in bed and Will was eating his breakfast, he kept asking me if Dado was a work. Aww. He sure does love his daddy.
5. One of the cutest things he has started doing lately is when he sees a picture of a lion or a tiger in a book, he will say, "Rarrr," in a perfect little boy roaring sound. I really need to get that on video tape soon before he changes the way he does it. I haven't had luck with video in the past, but maybe I can get it right and post it sometime.
